March 2017 Meeting Highlights

The meeting was held at the Arbutus Branch Library.  There were 51 people that attended the meeting, which included several visitors.  Our April meeting will also be held at the Arbutus library.

Janet gave out door prizes for March birthdays.

A reminder that QDAD designs are due In April.

Also in April there will be a slideshow of pictures that members took while they attended Quiltcon.

The May meeting will be our annual “teaching meeting”.  It will be held one week early on May 7 due to Mother's Day.  The meeting will be a workshop on curved piecing, called Pixelated Circles, with Jessee Maloney of Art School Dropout.  It will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 at Woodbrook Baptist Church.  The class will be an intermediate level workshop for sewing curves, and will be free for members.  There will be a $4 pattern fee.  An email will go out with more information closer to the workshop date.  See Jessee’s blog:  http://artschooldropout.net/blog/

We enjoyed a wonderful trunk show and lecture from Sarah Bond.  Some pictures are posted below.  She is on Facebook and Instagram.  (Some of us were lucky enough to attend her workshop March 11.)

We had a short break where bee blocks and the quilt in a box projects were exchanged.  Sarah Kachur gave a ruler demonstration for the mystery quilt.  The next mystery quilt step was also available.

Goodies brought back from Quiltcon were handed out as door prizes, followed by Show and Share.  There were 18 participants in the Show and Share

After Show and Share, the meeting ended, and we were asked to all help out and put our chairs away ourselves.  This would be great if everyone can do this at the end of our meetings!

Here are a few photos of Sarah Bond's trunk show...

Here are a few photos from Rebecca S, who got some nice pictures with Sarah in them...

This picture really shows off how large this quilt is!
