Workshop: "Adventures in Small Piecing"
A surefire way to slow down your machine stitching is to stitch small things. We’ll construct a custom mini sampler quilt top whose blocks encourage practicing some efficient traditional and improvisational techniques specialized for smaller work. We’ll also discuss the visual impact of the use of varied scaling of blocks in our design work. In the end, we’ll agree that small piecing can enhance our quilts without terribly increasing our workload.
I'll bring a small bin of scraps along and lots of samples. It will be a free-form class that starts with a trunk show of swatches, small quilts, and demonstrations of techniques depending on the ability levels of students. We'll follow up with open sewing time with one-on-one instruction.
Sunday, June 9
Lecture: "When the Cotton is High"
We meander through my quilt autobiography, from childhood to now. Moving from traditional quilts, to improv, to political expressions, I've been on a journey from hobbyist to artisan to artist. We'll touch on themes of censorship, identity, and difference in the US.

Paper-pieced Crab Logo with Elizabeth Timmons & Mary Thomas
Saturday May 18, 2019
The BMQG's crab logo was beautifully designed by our very own, Elizabeth Timmons. Mary Thomas then developed the intricate paper-pieced pattern for the crab logo. Come spend a morning with both Elizabeth and Mary as they show us how to sew the pattern. Sign up on the members only page. If you are not able to attend, no problem. The pattern will be distributed to members in June.
We have various sewing groups throughout the month. Two of the sew-ins are held monthly: one at Bears Paw in Towson and the other at various locations in Columbia. Bring your machine, your latest project and a bag lunch. Additional sew-ins are scheduled throughout the year. For more information on all of our sewing groups, check out the “Quilting with Friends” link on members only page.
