Featured Speakers

Timna Tarr

Saturday, March 7
Workshop: "Map Making with Fabrics"

Use fabric to capture a special location. Maybe it’s your favorite vacation spot, your neighborhood, or your hometown. Over the course of the workshop, participants will learn both pattern-making and improvisational quilting techniques to create personal map quilts. Bring a large paper map of a location you would like to replicate (approx. 24”x36”), your favorite fabrics and threads, and a willingness to experiment. Mark your place in the world!

Sunday, March 8
Lecture: "Flying Colors Trunk Show"

Timna is known for making fun, colorful, award-winning quilts. Join her for a trunk show of her quilting journey. She talks about her design and color choices, as well as the personal stories behind the quilts.

Heather Kojan (founder of the BMQG)

Sunday, June 14

Heather will talk about her quilting journey, from early days to the spark that led to the beginning of our Baltimore Quilt Guild. A prolific trunk show is also included.

Workshop: Pineapple Squared
Rescheduled for June 2021

Welcome to the goodness of pineapples! Join our guild founder Heather Kojan and make this wonderful pineapple quilt. You will leave class with a love of the pineapple block and a new perspective on pineapples.

Sunday October 11, 1:30pm
Virtual Lecture - on Zoom!

Sylvia will discuss “Quilts from Science.” This lecture will feature her science inspired quilts. Inspiration is everywhere—in my case, I often find it in science. I’ll show you my quilts and talk about the science behind them. You’ll leave with a few fun new factoids about the way the world works and inspiration to look to your own career for quilt ideas.

Blair Stocker (wisecraft handmade)

Sunday November 8, 1:30pm
Virtual Lecture - on Zoom!
Using scrap fabrics and making do is the very essence of quiltmaking. In this online lecture and trunk show, Blair walks through a practical exploration of color value in the old and new fabrics you probably already have in your stash. Not sure what color value is? Blair will demystify what it means and how to use it in your quilt designs. Blair will show you ways you’ve never even thought of to use your scraps and play with design in your quilts. Lots of quilts to show, ending with a q & a. You will never look at your fabric stash the same!
Highly recommend checking out Blair’s Instagram page (@BlairS) to see her innovative project library and helpful tips videos.
Sunday, December 13, 1:30 pm
Virtual Lecture - on Zoom!

Mary will share with you the stories, stitches, and angst behind a huge stack of quilts she will retrieve from her quilt cupboard. She will show plenty of quilts she’s made for publication/TV, many others hold deeper story: vintage quilts, inherited quilts, and Harriet Powers reproduction quilts get the attention they deserve in this truly original trunk show. Mary will also share about Quiltfolk magazine: her role as editor, the magazine’s approach to quilt culture in America, and perhaps a sneak peek into upcoming issues.
