September General Meeting

Arbutus Public Library, Catonsville


The meeting lead off with a presentation by Kimberly Cosgrove from Kennedy-Krieger Institute's therapeutic nursery/early Head Start program. They provide to the homeless and special needs children of Baltimore city and are our charity quilt recipients; Sarah's Hope is their housing location. They have a 90 to 120 day rotation cycle so many quilts are needed in an ongoing basis. The quilts we provide will be used in their programs and given to the children.

Here are the quilts made to donate to this program - but quilts are welcome to be donated at any meeting:







NEWS:

    Classes: The next workshop  will be held on Nov 9th - Michelle Wilkie will teach modern quilt design at Towson Public Library at a cost of $75. Registration will open on Saturday, September 14th, 10 am.
    
      Retreat:  There is one overnight weekend slot open for Friday - Sunday; day passes open for  short time. Pearlstone has strict kosher rules for all foods in common areas except the dorm lounges where any food/snacks are ok. Attendees can have travel mugs in the sewing rooms containing whatever they wish.
     There will be a project available to make on Saturday - Monica and Janet will lead a tutorial to make vinyl sided zippered project pouches. There will also be workshops on Friday and Saturday which all members may take - making double sided bindings; creating facings for finishing quilt edges and hand piecing; workshops cost $15, payable directly to teachers. Room mates - there will be an email soon to express choices. There will be games at retreat as well. We need volunteers to bring irons, ironing boards, cutting mats, etc. There are many great donations pouring in for goodie bags - be sure to thank our sponsors!!
   
     Bingo: Megan is coordinating. Please continue making prize items! We have two quilt prizes under construction: blocks for the Book quilt are due at the October meeting; Wonky House blocks should be handed in by the November meeting. We will hold the bingo on November 7, 2020 at the Lodge on Frederick Road in Ellicott City.
    
    House of Ruth CharityThere will be a sew day at the location in Towson on October 12th from 10 to 12; participants should take their  own machines.Tell Phyllis Cook if you are interested in sewing.
     
     Volunteers Needed! We need three or four people to volunteer to serve on the Nomination Committee to find new officers. We need ten to twelve people to volunteer to serve as mentors for new members and others to make name tags for them. We also need someone to serve as the chairperson for the Care Committee (to send cards and coordinate quilt making for members in need).
