Baltimore Modern Quilt Guild General Meeting

November 11, 2018 Catonsville Public Library

Joint meeting with D. C. Modern Quilt Guild


Baltimore business at this meeting: 
     Two members had birthdays this month and chose fat quarters courtesy of the guild.
     
Elections for offices for 2019 were held. Voted into office by general acclaim were:
          President: Rose Daley
          Vice President: Daniela Syed
          Communications: Sarah Strouse, Linda Schiffer (continuing)
          Social Media: Sarah Lefebvre
          Programming: Kathy Schwabeland, Andee McKenica (continuing)
          Treasurer: Jane Schiemer
          Membership: Cindy Barcelles, Valerie McNeese (continuing)
          Librarian: Diana Fertsch
          Community Relations: Diana Bear (continuing)
          Education: Marcia Schwartz, Amy Rauen (both continuing)


Notice that the classes held during the retreat this coming week are open to all members, whether or not they are attending retreat.

The December meeting will be a holiday party (please bring mess-free finger foods to share). There will be a White Elephant exchange - bring four quilt shop quality modern fabric fat quarters, wrapped, to participate. The meeting will be at the Arbutus Library.

Allison, president, and Cassandra, programs, from the DC Modern guild made announcements:
     They recently held a Comfort Cases charity packing day - backpacks with toiletries, pajamas, underwear, and a quilt were prepared for kids just entering the D.C. foster care system. There were 50 bags made at that meeting! 
     The guild will be holding their election of officers at the December meeting on the 8th in Arlington. That meeting will include a tutorial by Bets White on making a cherry pie ornament/pincushion.

The zipper pouch swap between members of the Baltimore and D.C. Modern guilds was adjudicated by Andee and Cassandra. Here are pictures of the happy swappers:


Show and Share was extensive with so many members present from both guilds!



Daniela Syed shared two pouches she had made 
(one with cork and linen, one with vinyl) and a quilt for her husband.



Jennifer Odom (DC) shared a Three Part Harmony quilt and wall hanging.


Pat Simrell shared an elephant themed quilt she made for  friend.



Bobbi Regan (?) shared a quilt she made from a workshop with 
Sarah Bond. She put the 'mistake' geese on the back of her quilt.





Valerie McNeese shared a cross quilt made from a pattern from Pattern Drop and 
her completed Candy Kiss quilt from our first guild block lottery.




Sue Myers showed a minimalist experimental wall hanging she made in one day 
along with a quilt made by Heather Jones she bought at auction.



Janet Schoenfeld showed a wall hanging for the coming class on interlaced lines 
and a piece she calls Embrace The Chaos.



Sarah Kachur shared a blue butterfly themed quilt she made for a baby girl friend and a top make from the Modern Guild Block of the Month called Mod Economy Square by Rebecca Sievert.



Cassandra McKee showed her color theme project with 
flying geese and a baby quilt with Charley Harper bird prints.




Sue Till showed her project from the Melanie Tuazon class with curves.



Rose Daley has been making pouches - two of the retreat bag with frame and a new 
pouch for the swap with three zippers (two smaller pockets and one larger).




Carol Rubin made a princess quilt for the Head Start charity project and a table runner.


Susan Brightman made a kaleidoscope quilt.



Alyson Olander made a pattern called Briar Rose.


Lynne Mackay made her color challenge project in purple and red solids, a la Amish.


Elle Irby made an economy block quilt with florals.


Emily Chua finished her FIRST QUILT to share.



Jenn Paulson made a tree skirt with plaids and a kimono jacket.


Andee McKenica made a barn quilt on wood.


Melinda (DC) made an octogon shaped quilt as part of the round robin.


Diana Owen made a paper pieced flying geese quilt in rainbow colors for her solids challenge.



Phyllis (DC) made a colorful Tula Pink quilt on an Alaska cruise.


Mindy Eads (DC) made a pattern by Carolyn Friedlander.
