November and December 2020

Thank you all for attending our November and December meetings. Our December meeting had the best turnout of 70 participants! We met with Mary Fons in December and she showed us her amazing quilt collection including a kaleidoscope quilt that has no curves, but makes an optical illusion of circles. Her book suggestions included: Hearts and Hands, Freedom Quilting Bee, and Homefront and the Battlefield. We also wanted to thank and congratulate Kathy S. on becoming VP next year. In our November meeting we voted on next year’s board which will soon be updated on our website. Our show and share was very robust. Please check below for the show and share from our talented makers.

Remember to renew your member ship this month as it is due in January.
Please check your email for renewal instructions.

October 2020 BMQG meeting

Thank you all for attending virtually. This month we are updating the bylaws. Please check your email for the proposed changes as members will vote in the November meeting. The two major changes include clarification for the communications directors and addition of a guild administrator.

The guild's nominating committee is still looking to fill the position of Vice President, Treasurer, and co-chair of Communications. None of the positions are scary and that being on the board is a lot of fun. Please let Jenn Paulson or Elizabeth Berger know if you are interested in filling one of the vacant positions. You can email the general guild email at baltimoremqg@gmail.com if interested.

Sylvia Schaefer presented her lecture "Quilts from Science". She presented several of her science themed quilts, including quilts inspired by Marine Science, Biology, and Astronomy. Sylvia shared her quilts, explained the science behind the inspiration, and described how she incorporated the science into the design, the fabric, and the quilting. Not only were we treated to a beautiful quilt show, we learned a lot in the process. Never has science class been so fun or inspiring.

Show and share followed Sylvia's presentation. Susan B. said we have half the blocks needed to create a quilt meeting the size requirements for the QuiltCon Community Outreach Charity Quilt Challenge. She requested that members let her know if they are still interested in making blocks so we can reach the required size. Laura Baltatzis is still accepting blocks for the Ribbon Rock and is looking for a volunteer to quilt the finished quilt. Please contact her or Sarah K. if you are willing to do the quilting.

Here are our beautiful show and share quilts:

The Baltimore Modern Quilt Guild is thriving despite a crazy year. 2020 was not at all what anyone expected, but check out all we have done for the month of October in our guild meeting

The guild meeting was filled with a dreamy home tour of many members' sewing spaces. Thank you to those who took the time to clean and show your amazing creative spaces. Any also of those like me that may have shoved the mess to the side and cropped the picture. 😄

Our Show and Share time was also quite an amazing adventure. So many talents and creativity. Check out our hard work below.

Meeting recap for August

We had a great guild meeting for August. Our guild learned about the Day for Girls global program. Days for Girls is an organization that supplied reusable menstrual products to school children that have very little access to higiene products. The goal is to help keep girls in school and eliminate barriers to learning and participation. A blog post with specifics can be seen in the earlier blog post for the guild.

Out show and share was also a success. Everyone has been busy. Don't forget to share those pictures. Send your latest projects to baltimoremqg@gmail.com
