October Meeting, 2019

Rose introduced a vote for acceptance of the revised by-laws for our guild which passed by show of hands. The pdf of our by-laws will be posted in the members only section of our website soon.
There were two October birthdays. We had three guests at this meeting.
We are still looking for members to volunteer to serve on the board for 2020 in the positions for Communications, Education and Programming. Please contact Rose or Daniela for more information about these positions (PLEASE take part in the leadership of our guild; without volunteers, our activities will suffer).
Committee Reports:
Sarah: New Member Buddys: Check the members only site to sign up - volunteer to help new members get acquainted with our guild.Daniela: Missing retreat project: Guild members who could not attend retreat could still participate via Instagram; Daniela awarded prizes and patterns to four absentee retreaters:
Classes: Amy Rauen noted that we have Michelle Wilkie teaching for our guild next month; the class will be held at Bears Paw quilt shop in Towson. Michelle will also lecture and present a trunk show at the November meeting.
Marcia: 2020 classes: We have contracted with Timna Tarr to teach quilt map making in March; our founder, Heather Kojan, will teach in June; the teacher for October will be shared with two other guilds and the arrangements are almost done (so more information will be available after the contracts are signed).
Phyllis: House of Ruth sew-in: A number of members sewed card cases to donate at the retreat - YEAH! There will be a Sew Day from 10-2 on October 19th to make tote bags; this will be held at the House of Ruth facility on the Morgan State University campus in Towson. Please call Phyllis for more info - this is one of our guild charity projects.
Membership: Valarie: Our guild now has 104 members!
Today's Program:
Judith from the Lancaster Modern guild brought the prize winning quilt, Bling, from the 2017 QuiltCon in Savannah to share. Kathryn Jones of Tasmania (Australia) foundation pieced the quilt to emulate a Princess cut diamond. Susan Brightman presented coloring fabrics with Shiva paintsticks.
Kathy Schwabeland discussed finishing quilts with a facing edge.
MJ showed us how to use iron-on laminates.
Rose demonstrated the new Daylight system for tracing and foundation piecing.
At the recent guild retreat, members could opt to make a

Show and Share:
Marcia Schwartz made a baby quilt for a soon-to-be
new grandchild using a pattern from Suzy Quilts.
She also finished a new tote bag.
Shelby Sanctt made a Fall wall hanging.
Susan Brightman made a small sunflower quilt and finished it
using a facing method from Rose's retreat class.
Susan also took a block design from the national
modern guild website to make this flimsy.
Marsha Barnes made a collage quilt in a class with Kevin Womack
and finished it with a facing she learned in Rose Daley's class at retreat.
Sue Myers made two quilts using her Tri-Recs tools, a third quilt with
the leftovers from the fourth quilt shown - made from Jackie Gehring's book.
Diane Winters had two quilts to share.
Kim Fawcett made a chicken-theme quilt with fat quarters purchased
on EBay. It will go to her aunt who lives on a farm; Kim calls this quilt
Dixie Chicks and Rebel Roosters
Laura Rieban shared her Mandala quilt and two Improv Curves quilts.
Susie Mueller showed a dog-themed quilt (back and front) that she pieced and
finished with a two-color binding from Judy Dunlap's class at retreat.
Diana Fertsch shared two tops she made from layer cakes using the
same pattern - one with batik fabrics and the other with 'more modern' prints.
Amy Verne made a baby quilt using gently modern prints.
Judy Dunlap made a Mandala in Laura Rieban's class at retreat. She made TWO
Halloween village quilts in a class with Karen Eckmeier
and finished a Boo table runner.
Daniela Syed made a Book quilt for her daughter and a woven
fabric pillow using the Wefty technique.
MJ Snyder made a pumpkin pillow in honor of Autumn and finished a
mug mat with a double-sided binding learned in Judy Dunlap's class.
Jen Paulson finished hand quilting an ombre moon-themed quilt
(which she had to rescue from the lake while quilting on vacation).
Rose made a second convertible back pack/purse using the
Curvalicious ruler and pattern by Cheryl Lynch.
Sarah LeFebvre quilted her Small Piecing project at retreat.
Maria O'Haver used unfinished blocks and
projects to make four donation prizes for our Quilt Bingo.
This member (whose name we did not get) made a really BIG tote
bag with ample space for carrying her quilts and projects.
